Family portrait sessions are so full of love, fun, and laughter. That is why I love being a Syracuse family photographer. Seeing everyone’s big smiles and happy faces never fails to brighten up my day. From playful piggyback rides and racing competitions to funny tickle fights – it is an absolute pleasure to document these sweet memories for families to cherish forever. I recently had the pleasure of taking family portraits for Melissa again! When she reached out to me to photograph her six-week-old son Wesley, I was super pumped to finally meet her little one!
In-home family photos
Family portraits are much more than photographs; they are a family’s legacy capturing the essence of their bond, spanning generations. They narrate a story of the deep bond shared among parents, children, grandparents, and other extended family members. So, when Melissa contacted me to take pictures of her lovely family of three, I wasn’t going to miss it for the world! I fondly remember all the enjoyable moments from Melissa’s maternity session and couldn’t wait to see her kid in person.
I had the pleasure of photographing Melissa, Chris, and their bundle of joy, Wesley, over the weekend that coincided with an arctic blast. Although newborn photos are scheduled within the first two weeks of the baby’s birth, this wasn’t possible in Wesley’s case. Sadly, Melissa contracted COVID right after giving birth and had to isolate herself from the newborn baby, which must have been a challenging experience for any new mother.
Melissa and Chris chose the comfort of their home for their family portrait session. I have a soft spot for in-home sessions as they feel more genuine and allow families to unwind and enjoy themselves in their comfort zone. Plus, in-home family sessions don’t need any extensive planning, making them ideal for families with newborns or young children. Photographing Melissa, Chris, and Wesley was such a delight. This terrific trio came well-prepared for their family portraits session, and I was super impressed with how easy it was to photograph little Wesley. Clearly, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree!
Clad in tiny suspenders and a bow tie, Wesley kept calm and quiet throughout the session, making it a stress-free photo shoot for the parents as well. He was such an angel! When photographing babies, I make sure to capture all of their little details, from their dainty toes and lips to their delicate fingers and eyelashes – I can’t get enough of it. I always do my best to take pictures without disturbing their peace. So while Wesley dozed off in his cradle, I took some close-up shots of all the adorable details. One of my favorite pictures of him is when he gazed straight into my lens with his beautiful eyes!
As the session continued, Chris and Melissa took turns holding Wesley in their arms, and I managed to get some great solo photos displaying their affectionate mother-son and father-son bonds. The couple looked at their baby with so much love and happiness, and you could sense how long they’d waited for this moment. The parents shared sweet kisses and rejoiced at the arrival of their beautiful baby boy. In-home family sessions always make for the most authentic family photos that reflect their true selves. And that’s exactly what I got with Melissa, Chris, and Welsey – a perfect trio.
