Some weddings just have that special spark, the kind where the couple’s personality shines so brightly that it’s impossible not to smile from start to finish. Kayla and Josh’s wedding at Twin Mills Pond Country Club in New York Mills was exactly that. From their laid-back country vibes to hilarious surprises from the wedding party, every moment felt uniquely them.
Kayla and Josh aren’t your traditional couple, and their wedding reflected that in the best possible way. Josh and his groomsmen ditched formal suits for jeans, perfectly embracing a relaxed, country vibe. Kayla, knowing her dad’s personality, told him he didn’t have to wear a suit either. Instead, he rocked a button-up skull shirt—a true testament to how this couple prioritized authenticity over convention.
And let’s talk about their epic entrance: Kayla and Josh kicked off the party with a ski shot! If you’re unfamiliar, this involves taking a shot from a ski—yes, like the kind you’d find on the slopes. It set the tone for an unforgettable evening filled with fun, laughter, and a whole lot of surprises.
The ceremony itself had its share of memorable moments. Josh’s groomsmen pulled off a first-ever (at least in my experience) groomsman huddle during the vows. The group took a quick break to share a flask, adding a playful touch to an otherwise heartfelt exchange of vows.
And then there was Josh’s best man. He totally stole the show during the “first look” by walking in wearing a white dress, pretending to be Kayla. As if that wasn’t enough, he raised the bar during the reception introductions—strutting in wearing nothing but his undies and suspenders..haha!
Josh clearly didn’t want to let the mic go once the party started. He kept grabbing it from the DJ, serenading the crowd throughout the night. It wasn’t just a performance; it was a full-on celebration of love, laughter, and great music. Watching him sing his heart out was a reminder that weddings aren’t just about the perfect photos (though we got plenty of those!); they’re about capturing the joy and spontaneity of the day.
What I loved most about Kayla and Josh is how unapologetically themselves they are. They’re the kind of couple who knows how to have fun and embrace the unexpected. Their love story began with an engagement session at Chittenango Falls, where we had the chance to connect and get to know their personalities. It was clear even then that their wedding day would be one for the books.
Weddings like Kayla and Josh’s remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just about the posed photos or the perfect light (though those are amazing, too); it’s about being part of a day that’s as unique as the people I’m photographing. From the ski shot to the groomsman antics to Josh singing the night away, their wedding was a celebration of everything that makes them, them.
Of course, a wedding like this doesn’t come together without a little help. The Twin Mills Pond Country Club provided a beautiful backdrop for their celebration, blending country charm with stunning views. A special shout-out goes to Tinara, who helped capture every incredible moment alongside me!
